Chimp Portrait

While visiting my fiancé’s home country (South Africa), she took me to many amazing places. One being a Sanctuary for chimpanzees called Chimp Eden, first and only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa. I was excited to see what was in store for us as we walked through the doors, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. We walked up to the fence as our expert guide explains what they do and how they help the Chimps. Shortly after her speech she calls in the family of chimps, they then stroll in to see the new visitors. We could immediately see the different personalities as some goofed off with one another, while others were more serious and to them selves. It really was striking seeing how aware and smart these animals are. Its no wonder they say we are so closely related!

I shot this particular photo of an older female, you could tell she was different from the rest of the group. Sitting on her rock, observing us very carefully in deep thought. I wish I could know what was going through her mind and what her story is and how she ended up there.
